This was a fairly typical village house. It had
been 'bricolaged' extensively. Partition walls had been added
to both floors to make rooms. The floors were shiny tile, the
bathroom felt like it needed a good scrubbing, in general the house
was chopped up and seemed dark.
The owner wanted a brighter, cleaner looking house, no shiny floor
tiles, no ref plastic on the handrail, an efficient kitchen, in general
a feeling of space and light. We took out the partition walls
on the ground floor and moved the kitchen to the other side of the
new room and installed a dishwasher, washing machine, and clothes
dryer. All the floors were re tiled, including the stairs.
We took out the partition wall between two bedrooms and made one
large bright bedroom. In the shower room we took out the bidet,
scrubbed and re grouted the walls tiles, and replaced all the taps,
lights and mirror. The whole house was painted white to make the
most of the light. |
